| I have a special treat for those of you familiar with the Hguols project. Even though that project is sequenced instrumental black metal, many of the songs were originally written on guitar or piano. (and when I say guitar, I don't mean an electric guitar) Here is a video recorded performance of me playing "...of Winter Moons" on a acoustic guitar. The original "...of Winter Moons" song, track 6 on the Epitome album, can be heard at http://www.hguols.com or http://www.myspace.com/hguols for those of you who'd like to hear a metal version of this song. For those of you familiar further back with my GRIM project a decade ago, this video will showcase my ability on playing "classical-ish guitar". For trivia's sake, that video was taken in my bedroom, and at the end of the video, I smiled at my mother who comes to see me Sunday afternoons. ^_^ The video was taken with my PSP. The Epitome CD should be out this month (January). Coming soon, maybe - a piano version of ...of Threnodies Abided. _________________ | olias wrote: | | Cooking makes me feel better. Or I shoot stuff. But that is hardly poetic. Well...it can be. |

| Very, very nice. You know a riff structure is good if it sounds good on classical as well as sequenced distorted. |

| Yes Munkey, the Hguols stuff is sequenced, not recorded. The notes are arranged non-realtime in sort of a player piano fashion. It removes the chance of timing errors, BUT in exchange, is extremely painstaking and tedious, especially integrating off timings into the music.... _________________________
I know I mentioned "...of Threnodies Abided", track 3, but I went off a track.
Here is a piano version of "...of Unprecedented Deaths", which the original version of the Hguols song is track 2 on the Epitome album. I'm a bit of a speed demon on the piano, which is showcased later in the video:
This is played at an old piano in the cafeteria of where I work. The F key right below middle C makes this bad clicking sound, and the piano is out of tune... however, I like the look and sound of it, despite that. (I'm not much for "keyboards" at least in regards to performances)
There are a few people who have heard the original ...of Unprecedented Deaths. (Mazzie and MetalFRO at least). I know that iTunes, CDBaby and Napster have samples of all the songs in selling the digital version of the album. _________________ | olias wrote: | | Cooking makes me feel better. | I will say, both of those videos sound fantastic, as does the black metal stuff on the myspace, though I would like to see some instrument stuff recorded in the future, with piano and acoustic guitar. |

| Tom, I quite liked the piano version - I agree that the slightly off-tune sound of the piano is perfectly suited for the atmosphere of that song, so it sounds a bit more "ominous" that way I look forward to the "Threnodies" rendition \m/ |

| I love the sound of slightly out of tune pianos, not really as a means of listening to music or compositions, but just the general sound of that instrument.
nice stuff man, you should add some of these tracks as classical versions |

| Awesome videos, Tom - shows that the Hguols stuff, despite the relative "din" during some of the tremolo picking parts, has compositional excellence |
