PostSubject: Manny Leaves Impending Doom   Wed Feb 03, 2010 11:01 pm

Quote:
Impending Doom guitarist Manny Contreras has apparently left the band. Via a mutual friend, Lambgoat has been provided with the following statement from Contreras:

"I can say we've come a long way since the day Brook and I started the band in high school and fought for our crappy demos to be listened to, selling them for 2 bucks to buy another meal deal at lunch. We've seen a lot of members come and go and did whatever we could to keep the band going because we were so in love with the music. As of now, for me, the love for the music of this band is really hard to feel. As a band gets bigger it only gets harder to feel the passion you once had. The business side of things really changes a lot.

"We all think this change is the best for the band. I love the guys and always will. Thank you to everyone who has ever supported and will keep on supporting Impending Doom. As for me, I will keep on pursuing a musical path, writing the music I've always loved to write."

In related news, we've also been informed that drummer Isaac Bueno has departed the group, though official confirmation has yet to be obtained.

Update: Impending Doom has subsequently issued the following:

"Yes, it's true we have parted ways with both Manny and Isaac. Both of them felt like this was not for them anymore; it happened a while back before we entered the studio. Not everyone can maintain the amount of passion that Impending Doom requires. That being said, we are still great friends with both Manny and Isaac and wish them both nothing but the best. Our good friend Brandon Trahan (ex-Mirror of Dead Faces) has stepped in on drums and just recently finished tracking on our upcoming record, which will be released this summer. As for rhythm guitar, we have someone stepping in for our upcoming tours and summer festivals. Be on the look out for new tour dates and a new record."
- Lambgoat

This means I'm even less interested in their new album. BUT I'm very excited about the prospect of Manny getting something else going since The Serpent Servant was a collaborative band effort and the early stuff was him.

Yeah I'll keep my eye out for his next project. I loved the older stuff as well.

In other words...

Hi, my name is Manny and I left Impending Doom because they sold out. I enjoyed writing heavier, less marketable music much like the music Brook and I wrote in high school, but we got offered a good deal of money to record the album, and although I didn't like the music, I did it anyway. I am now going to write music I enjoy writing and playing.

I much preferred the earlier stuff as well. I never bought a copy of Serpent Servant, so if the new album is an even bigger step away from NDR, I'm probably guaranteed to not buy it either. It'll definitely be interesting to hear any project Manny & Isaac get involved in from here.

I sincerely hope that your interpretation is right. I'd cream myself if Manny started a Nailed.Dead.Risen./Sin and Doom-like project.

No.
They barely are real death, saying so is an insult to death metal.

I'm still anticipating new ID, although I'm much more stoked for whatever Manny does next, assuming that he'll get anywhere.

The Sin and Doom of Godless Men and Nailed.Dead.Risen. were not deathcore. Deathcore revolves around melodeath influenced riffs, a mixture of metalcore and death metal vocal techniques and breakdowns that are a cross between metalcore beatdowns and brutal death slams. Whitechapel, Suicide Silence, Carnifex and As Blood Runs Black play this style. Early ID was clearly a less sophisticated form of Devourment-style slam death. The Serpent Servant, on the other hand, is definitely tech-deathcore. Damn good tech-deathcore, but tech-deathcore nonetheless. I could easily name 2000 death metal bands that I listen to; I know the difference between core and death metal.

THIS.

I look forward to what Manny is doing. I was somewhat disappointed w/ "The Serpent Servant" due to it being way less heavy than NDR. But I suspect better things are yet to come for the band once they continue to refine their songwriting skills. We'll see...

Nailed.Dead.Risen. was def. amazing compared to The Serpent Servant. To me, it sounded like TSS just got really repetitive.

Is anyone else scared by WHitechapel? I heard them w/ a friend in his friends Jeep with some massive subs and almost crapped myself.

The Mirror of Dead Faces drummer rules, so it will be interesting to see how he affects the music in Impending Doom
