^ Yup, most of those have been mentioned.

But I agree with the old Zep tune 'In My Time of Dying' that they borrowed from Bob Dylan 1961 who did a remake of the original 1933 Joshua White song "The Singing Christian". Much of the Mighty Zep stuff was influenced by the early, early deep south bluesmen.

The following SEEMS almost laughable to watch. But the underlying meaning can be quite redeeming for the Christian if looking past the Karma bullcorn. FYI, David Lee Roth cites Jim 'Dandy' Mangrum as his biggest on stage influence.

I've walked through the Halls of Karma
I shook hands with both the Devil and God
They turned my eyes to the inside to see
Where my energies have gone
Yes I've run with both all through my life
I've respected and reflected them both
Yes the sympathy of God as he looked
At my life the excitement of the Devil as we talked

So Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy on my soul

The Devil said, "scratch my back and I'll
Scratch your back for sure"
So you have done all these sins for him
My heart could not be pure
I found out what means more to me
Than anything on this earth
To be ready for my judgement day
Ready to face the truth

So Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy on my soul

I hope I've done the right things
For both your sake and mine
I preach in what I live for
My only fear is fear of time
I wanted to look logical
to both my "Maker" and his host
But this trip of life must be complete
or my cards will be lost.

So Lord Please Have Mercy on My Soul

Emergency by Paramore seems to be written in the point of view of God

I think we have an emergency
I think we have an emergency
If you thought I'd leave then you were wrong
Cause I won't stop holding on (Here God is telling the person that he will never forsake them in thier hard times)
So are you listening?
So are you watching me?
If you thought I'd leave then you were wrong
Cause I won't stop holding on
This is an emergency, so are you listening?
And I can't pretend that I don't see this (God is trying to get the person's attention, and also telling the person that he sees all his/her pain)

It's really not your fault
No one cares to talk about it
To talk about it (God telling the person that the situation is not their fault...possibly the divorce Hayley witnessed that was mentioned by another member)

Cause I've seen love die way too many times
When it deserves to be alive
(When it deserves to be alive)
I've seen you cry way too many times
When you deserve to be alive
Alive (I think this is self explanatory if you look at it in the eyes of God)

So you give up every chance you get
Just to feel new again
I think we have an emergency
I think we have an emergency
And you do your best to show me love
But you don't know what love is (I feel this is a powerful lyric, it is saying that no matter what love we show God it will never match the love he gives to us.)
So are you listening?
So are you watching me?
Well, I can't pretend that I don't see this

And I think it is specifically God talking to Hayley during her parent's divorce..I forgot to add that

-Cause I've seen love die way too many times
When it deserves to be alive
(When it deserves to be alive)
I've seen you cry way too many times
When you deserve to be alive
Alive

makes sense to me

Paramore is basically a Christian band.

Yup, they (Paramore) just landed in the vault today. I see that MetLHed4GZus would agree too.

I'll chime in quickly with several-----

Besides After Forever, there is also Into the Void and Lord of this World on Master of Reality.

I'd say the song "Faces" from doom band Warning, as well as "Footprints."

Trouble claims they are secular, so I'd say most all of Psalm 9 and The Skull, and even much of Runto the Ligtht and the self-titled fourth album (they may not count, though).

various Count Raven tunes (it may be cheating to count doom bands at all, now that I think of it LOL)

Hallelujah and Suzanne by Leonard Cohen (the best lyricist of all time, IMO).

^ Very cool contributions.

I forgot about the second half of Sabbath's 'Into the Void' referring to the trip to heaven

Most of Count Raven's studio songs can be seen on YouTube but without the lyrics. Here are the lyrics to Count Raven's 'True Revelation'. It is about the One World Order before Christs' return
"A new time has come, a new time is here
the one from the pit has risen and soon he'll make us fear
This is the time yeah this is the time now listen to this song
I'm gonna tell You a little story foretold by the prophet John
It started after the war when Israel got their land
It was the new beginning for today's modern man
Foretold two thousand years ago, now we know it's real
They've ruturned to their land on Silverbirds with wings of steel
The year is 1989 the news shocked us today
the Berlin Wall has fallen as many Germans prayed
Revolution in the Eastern block we can't believe our eyes
It's not the usual situation of the average media lies
True Revelation that comes to every nation
True Revelation that comes to every nation
The future that is coming up holds new hope for our World
All will say "PEACE NOW" and weeping won't be heard
Then a young man comes out of Egypt, he'll unite the
Middle-East a fair politician our new holy priest
The World will be amazed "What an incredible man!" he'll
confirm the alliance, all religions will shake hands
There will be one economy and we will all be free
No more creditcards that he can guarantee
The system that is coming up will really end this hell
A mark on hand or forehead or You can't buy or sell
True Revelation that comes to every nation
A new Manifestation the chosen aggrivation
This is the future that You look into and there is nothing that You can do
His next seven years will really be something else, Y'know
People will be stunned and say: "Way to Go!"
Now all is good and everything is fine, at last we will have some
peace of mind Relax and take it easy in your seats and count
in the number of the Beast
True Revelation that comes to every nation
It'll shake the foundation, in fact the whole Creation
Hear me now, all people, this is what I say: If Your heart
loves the Lord than You will be O.K.
In this time of knowledge and love for our world, for Mother Earth
we all fight, our voices can be heard
The World will be a better place, East and West shaking hands
In front of a Worldwide Government we all have to stand
Yeah, soon we'll have a fair world and things look better for You
Then along comes the One - You know who
True Revelation the Final Tribulation
True Revelation Gods Manifestation"
==========================================

Also 'The Coming' from Count Raven
"Listen
Silence in the air, people are nervous, everyone is in fear
This is the day the earth stands still, and the sinners they must beware
All through history people have tried to solve its mystery
And today you have, can you still tell me that you don't believe

I don't believe my own eyes
I see a door, it's open to paradise
I see a new star coming in the black sky
And I now I know that I am never gonna die

The earth it starts to tremble as it draws its final breath
A bodily chain reaction just like a man when he's near death
People running scared, something sinister is in the way
It's not science fiction, this is the final day

Cosmic laws they cease today
This is the return to beginning of time
And there is a new world coming out of Orion's belt
And the strangest presence I have never felt

The signs been in the fields so long
You wouldn't believe it, you couldn't receive it
Talking of the Kingdom come
You refuse to see it, best is to leave it
It is right in front of your eyes
Hatred increasing, nature is leaving
Our course was locked in suicide
Since the foundation, no more grief and tears

Shock waves start to ease down as our senses come to
Preparations has begun for the old world and the new
Imagine people from the past and the ******* future in the same place
The four horsemen, the four dimensions, the same space

I don't really believe my own eyes
I see a door, it's open to paradise
I see a new star coming in the black sky
And I now I know that I am never gonna die
Never gonna die
Did you hear it?
Never gonna die"
=======================================

and perhaps 'Lost World' by Count Raven too

"Free, you say you're gonna be
Me, I don't at all agree
The facts of life you don't see
Either truth or reality

Don't let my words bring you down
Just keep on trying
I just can't say that you will be free
If I did I'd be lying

Countries, they have all governments
It's not how the world was meant
Power in the hands of fools
They are all the devil's tools

Revolution will set you free
But only temporarily
To fight in stages time and time again
Or we face eternal darkness and pain

We are living at the end of time
It's the worst and best for the human kind
Fight to the end, that's our destiny
Until all evil hearts are gone or set free

The lion will lie down with the lamb
That we do not understand
Predator: is not a natural state
Creation bound in eternal hate

You know evil won't go away
And that it is here to stay
Until the redeemer comes
The fight goes on and on

Don't let my words bring you down
Just keep on trying
I just can't say that you’ll be free
If I did I'd be lying"
===================================

and 'The Divided World' by Count Raven
"Time will come when all stupidity is gone
Time will come when all the misery is done
Time will tell all the scars that you got, all the why's, and so forth!
Time will tell if it was you and what it was worth, then!
Sooner than you think now baby

Time will come when wars will be no more
Time will come when god knocks on your door
Time will tell if the life that you choose is the life that you wanted?
Time will tell in the questions you asked where they to be granted you!
Sooner than you think now baby

I can see your sorrow
Reading no tomorrow
The golden way is narrow that leads you home
The world has been divided
It has been decided
To separate the right from the eternal wrong's

Don't you know your losing
And yourself abusing
There is a choice in this time that's wrong
It's always been that
Until we've seen that
This is not the place that you belong"

Opening this thread to ALL genres.

There are probably over 100 songs with Godly lyrics from legends like Johnny Cash and Elvis.
FACTOID, these 2 started off wishing to be gospel singers but quickly got controlled by their labels.

I really dig these lyrics. Psychological and spiritual statements I agree with... depending on how you take a couple lines.

Senseless Life

From the moment you were born you were dying
With one foot planted in the grave
Programmed by your surroundings
To react in a given set of ways

You can't think for yourself so you are already dead

Follow only the ways of your own, abandon laws of god
Held in check by convention, strangling free thought

Your choice is only consequence, eyes are stricken blind

LIES! Senseless lies
LIFE! Living a senseless life

Bred to swallow lies, to ignore the glaring truth
Do the world some good and resist
The urge to reproduce

Unable to be free, life's hopeless for you
Circumstance will dictate your every move

LIES! Senseless lies
LIFE! Living a senseless life
LIES! Senseless lies
UGH...Living your worthless life

Heal the gaping wound between the mind, the body, and the soul
Cast off the chains which bind, for all time, regain control

Ha, interesting. I like that style of thrash vocal, in comparison to other options for thrash. I suppose I'm not sure it goes well with clean modern production, though.

That Close to the Edge link looks like it'd be fun to dig into sometime.
