I kind of agree that people should have Sunday off, but this is no way an affront to God. If you have to work, then God understands.

Glen Beck and Faux News are crazy.

lol at the giant orgy part though.

what's really ironic is that he's Mormon, not Christian, so shouldn't he be invoking Joseph Smith? Razz

Mormon's (Later Day Saints) take the Sabbath day extremely seriously and do consider themselves to be a Christian denomination (actually, they believe themselves to be THE true Christian church).

I was raised as a Mormon and was excommunicated after challenging the church's beliefs. That is a very long story for another time. Heh!

Sorry, I stopped listening once the guy made the oft-repeated falsehood that the majority of the founding fathers were deists or agnostics. Anyone who makes such a claim is either willfully ignorant or maliciously deceptive (or both). Greg Koukl has a good article on the topic which I'll quote in brief.

Full article here: http://www.str.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=5243

Greg Koukl wrote:
The phrase "Founding Fathers" is a proper noun. It refers to a specific group of men, the 55 delegates to the Constitutional Convention. There were other important players not in attendance, like Jefferson, whose thinking deeply influenced the shaping of our nation. These 55 Founding Fathers, though, made up the core.

The denominational affiliations of these men were a matter of public record. Among the delegates were 28 Episcopalians, 8 Presbyterians, 7 Congregationalists, 2 Lutherans, 2 Dutch Reformed, 2 Methodists, 2 Roman Catholics, 1 unknown, and only 3 deists--Williamson, Wilson, and Franklin--this at a time when church membership entailed a sworn public confession of biblical faith.

So this business of "the Founding Fathers weren't Christians" is (in the most charitable terms) bald-faced lie.

I in no way endorse Beck. I can only take him in small doses, and when he passes himself off as an orthodox Protestant or starts making sympathy plays like this, I just immediately tune-out. The whole business about referring off-the-cuff to Sunday as the Sabbath and this being "an affront to God" speaks volumes about the nature of cultural "Christianity" in the minds of these two, though. I know they weren't trying to wax theological in a really meaningful way, but it just really made apparent the "assumed Christianity" of being American.

Whatever though. Things like this are why I have little patience for politics any more (from either side of the aisle).

Can you imagine if a political figure did what Thomas Jefferson did with the Bible.. today. Edit the bible.. taking out all the parts involving miracles or that he didn't agree with and publishing his own version!

haha.... you see.. in many ways... people in the 1700's were actually more liberal than people today.
