PostSubject: Tim Tebow Super bowl Controversy   Mon Feb 08, 2010 2:43 pm

"The raging blog and TV news buzz about Tim Tebow's pro-life ad, the first advocacy commercial ever approved to air during the Super Bowl
, is building up buzz around commercial spots in general this year.

According to surveys from Alterian, Nielsen and Zeta Interactive, the Tebow's ad is by far the most discussed 2010 Super Bowl commercial on the Internet, according to the New York Times.

Over at Slate, Jason Fagone notes that the University of Florida quarterback has been preparing for this kind of soapbox his whole life:

Decisions about Tim's career are motivated by a search for an ever-larger soapbox. Tebow didn't choose to return to Florida to finish his education—"I'm a football player this semester," he explained before the season commenced. So, why did he come back? "I believe that I have a big platform here," Tebow told me last spring in Gainesville, Fla., "and I have an opportunity to help a lot of people here and influence a lot of people here." So he stayed. Tebow's success in college allows him to spread the good word in a way he might not be able to if he gets moved to H-back in the pros.

And now, CBS gave it to him.

CBS is rumored to have closely worked with the Christian group, Focus on the Family, that paid for the ad. The network rejected several other ads, including gay dating site ManCrunch.com.

But all that could be a ploy to bring in more viewers and ratings."

I think this is completely ridiculous. They call THIS controversial, but not the commercial with Megan fox? This makes no sense.

The idiocy and total lack of intelligence of the left AMAZES me. It's almost as if these people inject anesthetic into their brains because thinking gives them a headache, and would rather let another idiot think for them. They can't even view a single thing without looking at it through a feminist or ultra-PC lens, and it's amazing.

I personally know several people like this. You can't even talk common sense to them.

Hijacking threads for discriminatory rants, that's cool.

What's discriminatory about it?

Him saying that all left wingers are idiots. (I'm living proof that that isn't true, lol.)

You can't deny that there haven't been left wing versions of his rant before. I don't like over-simplifications of complex issues from either side of the ideological spectrum though.

Of course, I am more of an independent-libertarian-objectivist-market-anarchist-with-distributist-economic-leanings then a red-blooded conservative, so maybe it isn't my place to say.

Well, I don't like left-wingers using discussions as a lever to deride right-wingers, either. Respect ftw.

I don't like having discussions with XYZ-wingers, whatever that may be, because usually XYZ-wingers pick a particular set of facts arbitrarily chosen to suit a pre-ordained conclusion. This is an un-scientific process and goes against sound logic.

I am a nearly anarchist, libertarian independent that does tend to lean a little towards the right. I wouldn't consider myself a right winger, though from stepping back and taking a look at the whole picture, most of the right DOES, in fact, tend to have a lot more adherents who value common sense than the left does. I know that not everyone on the left is a braindead who looks at everything through a PC lens, but the vast majority I have met or seen did tend to have this mindset, and it is extremely common within left wing circles, though I will say yet again, I know that not every lefty is this way. I know right wingers that fit in the same bucket.

Most of the lefties I know, assume that pretty much everything is either sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, and all sorts of crap, and they absolutely will not take time to sit down and analyze things thoroughly before making these attacks. And I really mean E V E R Y T H I N G.

I agree, Broc.

Joey, don't react here, really consider what Broc is saying.

You do NOT want to be a reactionary.

You're right, my friend, I do not want to be a reactionary. I understand what Broc is saying, I really do. I just don't see how this is the right time and place to say it.
